Nashville Hispanic growth ahead of rest of state

"The Nashville-area Hispanic population grew by 21% over four years, a far faster growth rate than experienced elsewhere in the state — but described as an undercount by local Hispanic leaders."

"While the government reported approximately 50,000 Hispanics living in the eight-county Nashville area, [Tennessee Hispanic Chamber of Commerce board member Anthony] Lucas' group estimates the number at closer to 200,000."

"Hispanics, Lucas said, continue to be drawn to the Nashville area for the same reasons they have over the past 10 years: word of mouth about jobs in agriculture and urban areas, a temperate winter climate and a network of immigrants already here."
